TRUE SPACE DESIGN

 

In order to build a beautiful space, we use a unique process which we call true space design.   The basic principle of true space design is very simple.   It is more effective and efficient to design beautiful architecture if you are actually standing in the environment. That’s why we design your home, with you, in your home as the project unfolds and the results speak for themselves.

 

This may seem obvious, but it is not how most spaces are designed today.  Today’s architects who design spaces at a remote drafting table or computer screen are at a distinct disadvantage. As an architect or designer, it’s much harder to design something if there is no context to the real space. From a remote location as a designer I can use my imagination to create an interesting solution, but I cannot test it in its “true space” to see if it really works. Is the scale right?  Does it seem foreign to this house?  How does it feel to sit here?   At Thorne Design & Build we don’t spend the bulk of the design time at a remote location investing a lot of time money and effort designing solutions that may not work in your house.  We design architecture in its “true space”. If you design in the actual space all the answers lie before you.  You can easily judge what design choices are better functionally and asthetically. At a drafting table or lying in bed, one can easily fall in love with an idea for a space and become so attached to that creation that you’re convinced it is genius.  But if you design in real space your ego gives way to the obvious. Something works or it does not.
